Aging with Awareness

As we age, we often experience an inner prompting to re-examine our priorities and choices. By acknowledging our learning, challenges and victories, we can reflect on how we want to create our lives now. Using yogic practices we can reflect on questions such as:

  • What concepts do I hold that are no longer valid?
  • Can I see my body differently as I age?
  • How am I affected emotionally?
  • What does the imagination do when faced with new challenges?
  • How important is spiritual development at this time of life?
  • Is there a way to access wisdom as I face the challenges of entering a new stage of life?
  • What is the purpose of my life now?
  • How do I want to create the rest of my life?

Aging in Changing Times

Life seems to be changing and stressful in today’s world with pandemics, politics, climate change and personal challenges. Yet we continue to age in our bodies and minds. Consider this quote from Swami Radhananda:

“How do we maintain a position of steadiness? When we look outward at situations in the world, we often feel that we have no control, no ability to effect change. But we can go back to changing our world within – where we do have the ability to change. We can change how we use our intellect and emotions so that we are not swept up by outside forces. When we harness the emotions and intellect, we can gather facts and mobilize ourselves to actions rather than getting stuck in reactions.”

Reflection:

  • How do I stay grounded and clear about my own path amid these changes?
