In 2013, Yasodhara Yoga Cranbrook had one teacher. Tuesday mornings became the obvious time to hold a class, so I offered a “Yoga, Writing and Reflection” (Hidden Language Hatha Yoga) class.
A discussion with the local Arts Council, searching for ways to incorporate yoga into the arts led to my offering “The Art of Yoga”, for four Saturday mornings at the Arts Council. It was a Hidden Language of Hatha Yoga class, which included visualization on the selected pose, then students drew/coloured/painted what they saw, then wrote the story of their symbol – what it was telling them. We closed with another reflection before final poses/stretches/end relaxation.
Being the lone instructor, I sometimes felt physically separated from the other teachers, yet I feel supported by the Teachings and the work done on my own before classes – which keeps me connected to the Divine and therefore never alone.
